It has been an exciting opportunity to be selected for the ITV Green Room scheme at ITV White City, London. The scheme is focusing on TV programmes production, including unscripted and factual programmes. The good thing about it is that it is genre-agnostic, and anybody interested in creating or participating in interesting TV shows is allowed to participate. Of course, it was a competitive process, and so far, the programme has exceeded my expectations.
Many of my fellow participants are freelancers who have a long and wide range of experiences in television, and I am learning from them as well. The scheme has also a mentorship component, where ITV’s experienced producers, executives, and commissioners are mentoring in not only how to succeed in the industry, but also how to come up with ground-breaking show ideas, which can attract a wider audience.
Entertainment is also a business and I am increasingly coming to understand the business aspect of TV. To make use of the opportunity, I am keeping an open mind to a number of different genres to maximise my chances of career success and industry connection.
As an alumni of the Academy of Disabled Journalists (ADJ), I feel grateful for the training opportunity I had, and being part of the ITV Green Room scheme makes me more excited about the future going forward.
