We are absolutely delighted to congratulate Belinda on successfully passing her Certificate in Foundation Journalism (CFJ) with the Academy of Disabled Journalists.
Born in the North West of England, Bel originally completed a BA in Film and Television Production and was preparing to make her first feature-length film when life took an unexpected turn. Following a cancer diagnosis, she had to step away from her plans and focus on treatment and recovery. As a result of that treatment, Bel now lives with multiple muscular and skeletal disabilities that significantly limit her mobility.
Despite these challenges, Bel has continued to pursue her passion for storytelling with determination and creativity. During her studies, she secured a small commissioned piece with The Metro, successfully pitching and having her work accepted, a fantastic achievement. She also writes on a voluntary basis for the West Lancashire Gazette, and has drawn on her earlier documentary series, Sceptic – a factual exploration of some of history’s most famous paranormal cases, to produce engaging written features for her website.
Reflecting on her time with the Academy, Belinda said:
“It’s been a wonderful experience. It is a really great thing that ADJ is doing and it would be an absolute travesty if it didn’t continue. Thank you! I’m very pleased that I’ve finally completed it all and have loved every minute of it.”
Belinda’s resilience, talent and commitment to journalism are evident in everything she does. We are incredibly proud of her achievement and look forward to following her continued success in the industry.
