A huge thank you to the brilliant team at ITN for giving our Academy students an unforgettable tour of the newsroom.
From walking through the buzzing news studios to seeing the programme control rooms packed with screens, studio links, and what felt like a million buttons, the students were immersed in the fast-paced world of live broadcasting.
ITN CEO Rachel Corp FRSA took time out of a busy morning to personally welcome the Academy – a real privilege and a powerful way to start the day. This was followed by an insightful introduction from Fenella Meyer, who was clearly well-versed in the workings of the newsroom and set the scene perfectly for what was to come.
Our students met the programme editors of the Morning, Lunchtime, and Evening News and saw firsthand how each bulletin is meticulously planned throughout the day, yet always with the flexibility to pivot instantly if a bigger story breaks.
A special moment was the meet & greet with Lucrezia Millarini in the depths of the ITV building – right in the heart of the studio where the magic happens. Lucrezia generously shared her journey into journalism, along with brilliant anecdotes from her experiences presenting live on air.
The enthusiasm from Finola Miles during the walk-through of the high-tech digital studio was absolutely infectious. Her energy and insights gave students a real sense of the innovation driving modern news production.
We also had a fantastic Q&A with ITVX Deputy Content Editor Jess, joined by the legendary John Ray, whose honest and candid answers really resonated with the students.
The tour offered an incredible window into how a modern newsroom operates – informative, inspiring, and refreshingly real.
Thank you again to Rachel Corp FRSA, Fenella Meyer, Finola Miles, Daniel Sado, Jess, Lucrezia Millarini, John Ray, and the rest of the team for your time, passion, and generosity. You gave our students a glimpse of what’s possible in journalism, and we left more inspired than ever.
