We are beyond proud and delighted to celebrate the success of our Academy for Disabled Journalists alumna, Emily Davison, who has been awarded the prestigious Reach Journalism for a Digital Audience Award as part of the NCTJ’s annual Diploma in Journalism Awards.
Emily’s recognition places her among the top-performing journalism students in the UK, with the award given to the candidate who achieved the highest marks in the digital audience module. She is now a Multimedia Reporter at Newsquest London, writing for a range of South London titles.
Her success was announced alongside just eleven other standout candidates, selected from more than 11,000 diploma assessments taken by students, distance learners, and apprentices across the UK in the last academic year. The NCTJ described the winners as “a list of names to watch,” praising their commitment, skill, and hard work.
Emily’s journey is especially meaningful to us at Ability Today. She joined our Academy determined to overcome the barriers that disabled journalists so often face. With her passion, determination, and sharp editorial talent, she has not only excelled academically but is now making a real impact in the newsroom.
This award is testament to Emily’s hard work, the value of accessible journalism training, and the vital role that disabled talent plays in the future of the media.
Grant Logan, Founder of Ability Today, said:
“Emily’s success is a proud moment for all of us. It shows what’s possible when disabled people are given access to training, support, and belief. We know she’s just getting started, and we can’t wait to see where her career takes her next.”
Congratulations, Emily you continue to inspire us all!
