Georgina, aged 47 has been living with multiple sclerosis since 2003, she became disabled in 2018 when her walking went downhill. She experienced firsthand how expensive it is when you live with a disability. From investing in holistic therapies and supplements to acquiring assisted technologies and mobility aids, the costs quickly added up. Additionally, her body’s intolerance to cold weather led to higher heating bills, further increasing her monthly costs. Recognising a gap in the market Georgina created Purpl – the UK’s first discount programme for the disabled community which launched in July.

“Living with a disability brings significant financial challenges, with extra costs averaging nearly £1,000 per month (ref: Scope). Before I became disabled I had no idea of the financial impact it would have on my life but now I do, I want to help make a difference”
Key Highlights:
- Purpose: Purpl aims to reduce the financial burden on disabled individuals by offering exclusive discounts on everyday products and services.
- Launch: The website launched in July with over 90 brand discounts available and more on the way.
- Partner Brands: ‘Disabled Discounts’ is now signposted on over 30 brand websites, including Hoover, Menkind, Poundland, The Fragrance Shop, Marks Electrical, Rotary Watches, Pavers, and more.
- Additional Discounts on the Website: Discounts from brands like Currys, BuyAGift, Moss, JD Williams, Tower London, HP and more.
- Community Focus: Purpl is more than a discount website; it brings the disabled community together to share advice, access offers from brands, support disabled charities, and ultimately the future plan is to create the Purpl Foundation to offer grants to those who need extra financial support to pay for equipment or services that will make a difference to their day to day life.
- Blog: The Purpl blog features community stories, sharing knowledge and experiences, and offers useful information like job-hunting tips for disabled individuals.
- Inclusivity: As Purpl grows, the goal is to recruit from the disabled community to make it a truly inclusive company.
Review from a Recent Member: “I joined through Hoover when buying a washing machine. It saved us £50.00 so a huge thank you. My son has multiple disabilities and the machine is on about 3 times a day, sometimes more, so we go through machines! Thank you!” — Dawn
It’s free to join and you can register with a number of different documents that verify your disability status – we recommend reading the upload guide first to ensure successful registration.
