What skills did you learn on this course?
During my time on this course, I learned about the basics of how to store information to write articles, and the legal and ethical code of journalists among other things.
The regulations for broadcasters and print media were very interesting to learn about in depth and I’ll take all I’ve learned on this course forward.
What were the parts of the course you liked best and why?
I enjoyed Feature Writing the most because I can write short pieces about light-hearted topics or short pieces that focus on a specific subject.
The Gathering Information unit was also interesting and the best one for me to start with in order to transfer that knowledge to the other units.
What parts of this course did you find difficult and how did you overcome this?
Although it was enjoyable, I found that Feature Writing was difficult in some ways because I didn’t always give enough detail during my previous attempts. But the feedback from the tutors let me know what I needed to add to strengthen my chances of passing.
Also, although this isn’t a specific unit and more of a general point, I did struggle with motivation and doubted whether or not I would pass this course. Meetings with the tutors and faculty helped me understand what to focus on and how to move forward.
What are you planning to do next?
I’d like to get into an apprenticeship that focuses on journalism where I can build my skills on Feature Writing. I also hope to write articles for charities or businesses in order to retain what I’ve learned on this course.
I’d also like to release a novel in the future.
