UTIs, shingles, Lyme disease: Nova Scotia pharmacists more involved in drug therapy management, disease prevention – Saltwire

Graham MacKenzie has seen a massive change in what he can do as a pharmacist over the past few years.

Traditionally, pharmacists would evaluate a prescription made by a doctor, check to ensure it wouldn’t interact negatively with any other medication they were on and fill the order.

Now they are able to prescribe some medications for some uncomplicated diseases and administer a number of vaccinations, some of which also need a prescription written.
