‘Undateable’ Rhys who has autism had one of the best days of his life on a Channel 4 date show – WalesOnline

A Neath lad with high functioning autism and severe dyspraxia has found fame on television show The Undateables.

Rhys Jenkins starred on one of the latest episodes of the Channel 4 show, taking out 26-year-old Sofia, a medical student from Oxford University – something he described as “one of the best days of his life”.

And he got the unexpected attention of One Direction fans on social media, who were convinced he was the double of band member Liam Payne.

Among the tweets from fans were: “Tell me Rhys on Undateables isn’t Liam Payne because that’s all I’m seeing” and “Rhys is the double of Liam Payne”.

Sophia who suffers from asperger syndrome and can find social situations difficult, joined Rhys in Swansea for a tour, enjoying lunch and kite-flying.

“I was sceptical about exposing myself to the general public, I can be quite a shy person and I’m not used to being in the spotlight,” Rhys told the Huffington Post.

“So I talked to my family, as well as many friends.
