Over the years, eleven and a half to be precise, we are often asked questions about travelling with a disability and the ‘What if’s’. Here we share the most common ones with you, including our answers!
Here is our top 5 list of the most asked questions.
What do I do if my wheelchair is broken by the airline?
Report this to the airline right away and make sure that they begin a claim, always speak to a Supervisor and write down the name of the person you have spoken with. If your wheelchair is not usable or safe, tell the airline that they must accommodate you and locate one that you can use. DO NOT feel that you are being demanding, that chair is a lifeline for you!
What if I have to go to the bathroom during the flight?
Speak to an airline employee and ask them to bring the ‘aisle chair’ as you must go to the bathroom. Another option with longer flights is to consider catheterization or ensure that you are wearing briefs that are a good quality. I recommend TENA unisex as they seem to be able to handle those unforeseen moments. A Travel-For-All rule is that we never refer to adult as Incontinence products as diapers- they are called ‘sexy’ undies!
How can you guarantee that my room at the hotel/resort will be wheelchair accessible?
This is what sets us apart from other agencies, we are called the ‘pit-bulls’ as we contact the hotel/resort management directly to confirm in writing that the accessible room has been assigned to our client (as many times as necessary)
What happens if there is a problem while I am travelling in a different country, how do I reach you?
We are always a phone call away and we are connected with our suppliers via Skype, Facebook, Google chat etc. They will contact us if there is a problem i.e. you want to change your itinerary, or you do not want to visit the places originally in your itinerary.
What do I do if I lose my Passport??
This has happened many times and we have a copy of your passport on file and we will call the appropriate place and assist you with obtaining a temporary passport. We will not leave you in the country you are visiting- unless of course you want to!
