An extra £172 a week is being awarded as a tax-free sum to anyone with a vast range of medical conditions – including those who are in work. Thousands of people could be entitled to the extra money from April on medical grounds.
Around three million people across the UK get Personal Independence Payment, a benefit awarded by the DWP to those with long-term mental or physical health problems or disabilities.
Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is given to people over 16 if they have difficulty doing certain everyday tasks or getting around. You can get it if you’re working or have savings as it is not means-tested.
