At the age of just 16, she was told by a teacher, via her mum, that she would “never get anywhere or never amount to anything.”
For Gemma Turnbull, who left school aged 16 with no qualifications, that damning assessment and her situation could have easily left her without much hope.
But the teenager, who admits she grew up on a council estate which she described as “quite rough”, dreamed of better things.
