Dear Katie,
I wrote to you for help in March after discovering that my autistic brother had lost more than £500,000 to a sophisticated scam, and you’ve been investigating his case ever since.
My brother, who lives by himself and is extremely vulnerable with severe autistic traits, was first targeted by a rogue builder, who purported to carry out repair work on his roof.
The initial job cost £13,500, but then a “surveyor” turned up and told my brother that a huge amount of structural work and additional repairs would need to be carried out. This amounted to around £278,000.
My brother paid the money, but the work was never carried out. He must have known he had been fleeced, but he didn’t tell a soul.
