There’s a new face on the old Inner Loop.
On Tuesday, prolific local artist Mike Dellaria, better known as Dellarious, installed a wheat-paste portrait of young Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg on a utility box at East Avenue and South Union Street.
“I find her tenacity to be incredibly inspiring,” he said. “She is a 16-year-old girl and has already shown more bravery and intelligence than many of our elected leaders.”
Featured on the cover of Time magazine in May, Thunberg made headlines Monday with a speech at the United Nations, in which she scolded world leaders for failing to address climate change.
“You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words,” she said, clearly angry. “And yet, I’m one of the lucky ones. People are suffering, people are dying. Entire ecosystems are collapsing. We are in the beginning of a mass extinction, and all you can talk about is money and fairy tales of eternal economic growth. How dare you!”
