Richard Lawrence is easily one of the standout stars of hit Channel 4 reality show The Undateables, which follows ‘people with challenging conditions who are looking for love’.
Richard, who has Asperger’s Syndrome, appeared on the first series of the show and has returned several times since in his quest for love.
And it seems he’s now winning people over outside of the popular series, too, thanks to a pretty incredible new Instagram account.
For some of his first posts, Richard teamed up with a friend to discuss and raise awareness of autism, ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and anxiety in a series of Q&A-style posts, which is a brilliant way to shed more light on the issues that are close to his heart – without the heavy editing that comes with national TV.
“How does having autism affect your life?” Friend Joe, who has ADHD, asks in one video.
“It affects my day-to-day life in the sense that I can’t hold down a normal, run-of-the-mill job,” Richard replies. “It’s the rules, the time and other people – other people who have a different rule book to you.”
In another, he says: “I can’t help the way I am, the way I behave around other people. I kind of feel like they’re sort of winding me up on purpose sometimes, and that might not be the case. It’s just the way I am.”
As soon as fans caught wind of his move to the popular social media site, they were eager to spread the news:
