People like to say that they can feel things in their bones. But the reality with osteoporosis is that a person doesn’t usually feel it in their bones until one of them fractures.

One in three women and one in five men over age 50 will experience an osteoporotic fracture in their lives, according to the International Osteoporosis Foundation. The ailment is much less discussed than heart disease or cancer, but can have just as big an effect on the lives of seniors. Breaking a wrist is miserable. Breaking a hip is far worse—it can be a death sentence for the elderly.
