The Multiple Sclerosis Foundation held a Mind and Mobility Festival at Topeekeegee Yugnee Park in Fort Lauderdale on March 12 as part of Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month.
The event was aimed at helping multiple sclerosis patients boost their mental and physical health using alternative therapies such as yoga and meditation and played host to live music and food stalls. Find out more about the festival here.
Entry to the festival was free and people were encouraged to join in the yoga sessions as well as listen to talks about health, diet, fitness and emotional well-being.
Yoga’s been found to be extremely useful for multiple sclerosis patients who can use various asanas (moves) to help build muscle strength and flexibility. Yoga can be adapted to suit the needs of most MS patients and the stretches and moves modified to suit all fitness levels.
Yoga and meditation are also beneficial to mental health and can relieve stress, ease depression and improve sleep quality.
