Local author releases book on experience surviving rare illness – Fort Saskatchewan Record

A local author has released her first book, on her experience the rare auto-immune disorder Guillain-Barre Syndrome, with hopes of inspiring others who may be going through a similar experience and reminding them to never give up. Holly Frances, who lives in Beaumont, released Life Support: Surviving Guillain-Barre Syndrome — A Mother’s Story of Hope and Recovery, on January 15.

Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) is a rare disorder said to affect just 1 or 2 people per 100,000, and it result’s in a person’s immune system attacking their own nerves. Symptoms can and often include a pins and needles sensation in the fingers and toes, difficulty breathing, weak legs and the struggle to walk, a loss of facial movements, and more.
