DISABILITY LABOUR has been representing disabled members in the party since before 2018.
We felt we had achieved a lot since then and that we had developed a great working relationship with Labour Party staffers. Things were improving and then the party started pumping the brakes on our relationship.
A lot of water has passed under the bridge. Once again we are beginning to feel uncertain. Disabled people want to feel included, however this is feeling less and less the case.
Where as we had been asking for the UN Convention of the Rights of People with Disabilities to be enshrined in British law, the language has become less clear in the aftermath of the national policy forum (NPF).
The initial impression after the NPF weekend was quiet optimism. That was until the most recent reshuffle. We felt less positive when the people who our representatives spoke to were suddenly no longer there. We didn’t get everything we wanted through the NPF, but now even those hopes are fading.
