A night out on the town is something a lot of us take for granted. But for people like Kelly Bloomer, from Rowley Regis, just the simple task of getting to and from a venue can be a nightmare.
Kelly is a wheelchair user with spina bifida. Every time she goes out she pays double, sometimes triple, what her friends pay to get home in a taxi – just because she is disabled.
Kelly says travelling around Birmingham is a ‘nightmare’ and that lack of accessibility ‘robs her of her independence.’ The 37-year-old has been disabled since birth and said ‘nothing had changed’ in terms of accessibility in her lifetime.
