A few months ago, I was in the park playing with my five-year-old son Harry when he blurted out the best words a mum can imagine: ‘I love you’ – before giving me a bear hug.
It was the first time he had ever been able to form the words.
Harry struggles with speech, which is typical of children who have Down’s syndrome, so this was huge for us. And even more so because I had dreamed of this moment for so many years.
