It was only a late surge from its curlers that ensured Team GB did not end the Beijing Winter Olympics empty-handed. Perhaps it is fitting then, that Great Britain’s Paralympic hopes kick off once again on the rink.
As much as it is tempting to see these Games as a clean break from the recent Olympics, they begin with many of the same questions that haunted the International Olympic Committee last month. Kamila Valieva was allowed to skate as a neutral athlete, representing the Russian flag, before her positive test threw the ROC’s participation into disrepute.
Now it is the International Paralympic Committee fielding difficult questions, making a late u-turn to ban the participation of athletes from the RPC (Russian Paralympic Committee) and the NPC of Belarus.
