The British Heart Foundations said: “There is as many as 100,000 hospital admissions each year due to heart attacks: that’s one every five minutes.” A heart attack is defined by the NHS as “a serious medical emergency in which the supply of blood to the heart is suddenly blocked”. If the condition is not treated quickly, heart attacks can be fatal, says the NHS. Furthermore, a lack of blood, oxygen and nutrients – resulting from a heart attack – can also seriously damage the heart muscle.
The NHS now has an online checker where people can find out their heart age.
Known as the Heart Age Test, it gives people an idea as to what their heart age is compared to their actual age.
