Funding appeal to support Yoga for Autism classes – Windsor Express

A yoga teacher who runs classes for children with autism in Windsor is appealing for support after she was hit by funding cuts.

Katia Cornwall, 48, has been running her weekly Yoga for Autism sessions at the independent Yoga for Harmony studio in Arthur Road for the past two years.

She had received money from Autism Berkshire which allowed her to make the classes free of charge.

But when she reapplied for funding in March, she found out she had been unsuccessful, meaning the classes will now cost a small fee.

Katia said: “Some children were really developing and I thought that would be enough for the funding to carry on.

“The money meant that local families didn’t have to worry about paying for the classes.”

Yoga for Autism aims to provide autistic children with yoga strategies to help them cope when they start to feel anxious or upset in everyday life.

Relaxation and meditation also forms a key part of the classes.

Katia added: “I’ve been trying to appeal to different businesses around the area to give some funding so families can continue attending these classes for free.

“I’m hoping there is maybe somebody out there who wants to support us financially and for people to be aware that the classes are going on.

“The sessions mean they can have a bit of fun and if they are in a group they can try and develop friendships.”

Yoga for Autism runs every Wednesday with sessions starting at 4pm.
