Macmillan has launched the Macmillan Deaf Cancer Support Project, providing emotional and practical support to deaf people who are also living with cancer in Leicestershire. In collaboration with Self Help UK, the scheme will also offer remote sessions in British Sign Language (BSL) through trained deaf volunteers.
Service users will have access to virtual peer support groups and a website tailored to the needs of Deaf people with cancer, providing information in BSL. The 2-year pilot will also support carers, including those with hearing impairments who are supporting a hearing person with cancer.
