Cerebral palsy is a complex disability that can affect up to all four limbs. The reasons for a child developing the condition are sometimes unknown. In a small number of cases, cerebral palsy can result following oxygen deprivation suffered before, during or just after a baby is born.
Incidents that escalate to putting a baby at risk of having their crucial oxygen supply interrupted include delays in their safe delivery. This may occur if medical staff fail to spot the signs that a baby is in distress or fail to deliver the appropriate medical intervention in a timely manner.
Cerebral palsy solicitor Diane Rostron said: “For some families, a pregnancy can be considered low risk, and progress normally without incident. In the absence of careful, and appropriately regular monitoring throughout, and up to the safe delivery of the baby, warning signs that medical intervention is needed can be missed.
