Blackpool woman’s donation to stroke unit after life-threatening illness – Blackpool Gazette

A Blackpool woman who suffered a massive stroke just two weeks after her 40th birthday has raised money to help people recover their speech.

Lyn Barratt was cared for on the Stroke Unit at Blackpool Victoria Hospital, and had ongoing treatment by the hospital’s Speech and Language Therapy Team for the difficulty she was having with her language and speech, known as aphasia.

She says she had such good care at the hospital that she wants to give something back, and has made a donation of £250 to the Speech and Language Therapy Team specifically for an assessment kit to help treat people with aphasia.

Lyn’s husband, Glenn, said: “Our experience of the Stroke Unit and the Speech and Language Therapy team at Blackpool was amazing; the staff were phenomenal.
