A breast screening film to support women with learning disabilities – Nursing Times

Introduction

Breast cancer is the most common cancer type in women in the UK, with one in seven developing it in their lifetime. The aim of breast screening is to reduce breast cancer mortality by finding cancers very early on, when they are too small to see or to feel. Breast screening saves around 1,300 lives each year in the UK (Public Health England, 2021a) and national uptake of breast screening is around 70%. However, women with learning disabilities are not well informed about breast cancer and there is evidence that only half of this group attends for screening (Connolly, 2013).
