Marijuana use and bipolar disorder a risky mix, psychiatrist says

Marijuana has been hailed as a cure-all for myriad health conditions, but when it comes to bipolar disorder, the picture is anything but clear.

The long-term prohibition of cannabis has left reliable medical studies on the effects of cannabis on mood disorders in short supply, but early efforts have found the drug to be the most commonly abused by bipolar patients, with a lifetime use rate of 70 percent, according to Psychiatry Advisor.
