AWARD WINNING AUTISM TRAINING COMING TO THE ISLE OF WIGHT FOR THE FIRST TIME – Island Echo

The Curly Hair Project (CHP), an award-winning social enterprise founded by autistic author and entrepreneur Alis Rowe, will be delivering a special autism learning day on the Isle of Wight at the end of January.

Alis spent her whole life feeling really isolated and ‘different’ and didn’t want anyone else to have these feelings. At the age of 22-years-old, Alis was diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum and when searching for support from written material, she couldn’t find anything that resonated with herself. So, she thought she would set up a Facebook page and reach out to others who may feel the same. This was the start of Curly Hair Project.

Since this initial page, Alis also started her writing career with her first book ‘Aspergers & Me’. She has now written over 20 books on subjects ranging from Anxiety to Emotions, Puberty to Executive Function. The books are endorsed by the world’s leading psychologist in autism, Professor Tony Attwood.

Alis’ inspiring work is recognised by working with the NHS Healthy London Partnership, being on the recommended reading list for GPs, recommended resources by the Association of Colleges, recommended reading list for people post-diagnosis, used by teachers, psychiatrists, GPs, psychologists, counsellors and other health professionals worldwide. CHP also works with companies on a consultancy basis to help them become more autism friendly.
